01Who we are

Landrun ("Landrun", "we", "us") is a location-based running game operated by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME], registered at [COMPANY ADDRESS]. This policy explains what we collect when you use the Landrun iOS app and our website, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

For data protection purposes, [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] is the data controller of your personal information.

We do not collect your contacts, photos (beyond a profile picture you choose), or health data from HealthKit unless you explicitly connect it in a future feature — in which case we will ask first.

03Location data

Location is the heart of Landrun, so we want to be precise about it:

  • When we record: precise GPS is recorded only while a run is actively being tracked. We do not track your location in the background outside of an active run.
  • What it becomes: your route line is stored as the border of the territory you claim. The route and the territory are the same shape.
  • Where it's visible: claimed territory appears on the shared map visible to other players. See section 5 for exactly what others can and cannot see.
Routes can reveal patterns. Regularly starting or ending runs at the same place (like your home) can make that location inferable from your public territory. We recommend starting runs a short distance from addresses you want to keep private. Privacy zone controls are described in section 8.

04How we use data

  • Run the game: render the territory map, resolve claims and invasions, score challenges, compute leaderboards and team standings.
  • Operate your account: authentication, syncing across devices, Premium entitlements.
  • Show your stats: distance, pace, calories, streaks, and history in your training log.
  • Keep the game fair: detect GPS spoofing, impossible speeds, and other cheating.
  • Improve the app: aggregate, de-identified analytics and crash diagnostics.
  • Communicate: service messages (season resets, security notices) and, only with your opt-in, marketing.

Legal bases (EEA/UK): performance of our contract with you (running the game), legitimate interests (anti-cheat, security, product improvement), consent (precise location via iOS permission, marketing), and legal obligation where applicable.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share precise location with advertisers.

05What others can see

Visible to other playersNot visible
Your username, profile photo, and teamYour email address
Territory you currently hold (shape and location)Live location during a run
Leaderboard stats: distance, area held, streaksYour run start times or schedule patterns (not exposed as a feed by default)
Kudos, achievements, and challenge resultsPrecise timestamps of when you were at a specific point
Territory is public by design — that's the game. If you prefer not to reveal where you run, use privacy zones (section 8) or play in areas away from sensitive locations.

06Sharing & processors

We share data only with service providers who process it on our instructions, under contract:

  • Cloud hosting & database: [PROVIDER, e.g. AWS/GCP — region]
  • Map rendering: [PROVIDER, e.g. Mapbox/Apple Maps]
  • Crash & analytics: [PROVIDER, e.g. Sentry, self-hosted analytics]
  • Email delivery: [PROVIDER]
  • Payments: Apple (App Store in-app purchase — Apple's privacy policy applies to payment data)

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of players, or as part of a merger or acquisition (in which case this policy continues to apply and we will notify you).

07Retention

  • Account data: kept while your account is active.
  • Routes & territory: kept while your account is active; historical routes power your training log and replays. Territory lost to rivals remains in season history in de-identified aggregate.
  • Season data: team standings are retained as historical records; personal contributions are aggregated after [N] seasons.
  • Deleted accounts: personal data is deleted or de-identified within 30 days of a deletion request, except where we must retain records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes (retained no longer than necessary).
  • Backups: encrypted backups roll off within [N] days after deletion.

08Your rights & choices

Controls in the app

  • Privacy zones: define areas (e.g., around your home) where your route lines are hidden from the public map. [Adjust if not yet shipped: "coming in version X" or remove.]
  • Location permission: revoke anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services. The game cannot claim territory without it, but your account and history remain.
  • Profile visibility: control who can follow you and see your activity feed.
  • Marketing: opt out in Settings or via the unsubscribe link in any marketing email.

Legal rights

Depending on where you live (including the EEA, UK, and California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent. To exercise them, contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will respond within the timeframe required by law. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

09Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time:

  • In the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account.
  • Without the app: email [PRIVACY EMAIL] from your registered address with the subject "Delete my account", or use the form at [DELETION PAGE URL].

Deletion removes your profile, routes, territory, and stats as described in section 7. Team territory you contributed is recalculated. Active Premium subscriptions must be cancelled separately through Apple (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions) — deleting your account does not cancel the subscription.

10Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, hashed passwords, access controls limiting employee access to production data, and monitoring for abnormal access. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

11Children

Landrun is not directed at children under [13/16 — set per your markets], and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will delete it.

12International transfers

Our servers are located in [REGION]. If you use Landrun from outside that region, your data will be transferred there. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers out of the EEA/UK.

13Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the game evolves. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
